1.1 Who we are
These Terms of Service ("Terms") apply to your use of www.askthequran.com, including the Quran reader, search, audio recitations, stories, newsletter and the Quran AI assistant (together, the "Services"). The Services are run by Mohammed S Ali, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our").

1.2 Accepting these Terms
By using the Services you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services. Please also read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, and the Disclosure Policy at www.mohammedali.tv/disclosure-policy.html, which explain how we use personal data, cookies and affiliate links.
1.3 Your statutory rights
If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Any term that is not fair or transparent under that Act will not bind you.
02Who can use the services
2.1 Age
Anyone can read and listen to the Quran on this website. The AI assistant and the newsletter are for people aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian knows you are using the AI assistant.
2.2 AI assistant sign-in
To use the AI assistant you sign in with your name and email address, using a one-time code we email to you. Please give your real email address, keep access to it secure, and do not use someone else's email address. You can ask us to close your AI assistant account at any time.
03What we provide
3.1 The Services
AskTheQuran is a free educational website. We provide:
- The text of the Quran with translations in many languages
- Audio recitations by a number of reciters
- Search across the Quran and its translations
- Stories and articles about the Quran and Islamic history, some written with the help of AI
- The Quran AI assistant, which answers questions about the Quran and Islamic teaching
3.2 Translations and recitations
Translations are the work of their translators and are not the Quran itself. We take care to present the Arabic text, translations and recitations accurately. If you spot a mistake, please tell us at [email protected] so we can correct it.
3.3 Availability
The Services are free to use and are provided "as available". We may change, suspend or stop any part of the Services, including the AI assistant, at any time. We will try to keep the Services running, but we cannot promise they will always be available or free from errors.
04The AI assistant
4.1 What it is
The Quran AI assistant is a computer program that uses a large language model to write answers. It is not a person, a scholar or a religious authority, and its answers are not reviewed by a scholar before you see them.
4.2 Not a religious ruling
Answers from the AI assistant are general information for learning. They are not fatwas or religious rulings, and they are not a substitute for qualified scholars. For important religious questions, and for personal, legal, medical or financial matters, please speak to a qualified person.
4.3 Accuracy
AI can make mistakes. Answers may be wrong, incomplete or out of date, may misquote verses or sources, and may differ from one question to the next. Please check anything important against the Quran itself, authentic sources and qualified scholars. You can report a wrong or harmful answer to [email protected].
4.4 Using the assistant responsibly
When using the AI assistant, you must not:
- Try to make it produce unlawful, hateful, abusive or harmful content
- Try to get round its safeguards, for example with prompt injection
- Use it to harass or deceive anyone, or present its answers as the words of a scholar or of AskTheQuran
- Send it large numbers of automated requests, or use it to build a competing service
- Share other people's personal data with it
4.5 Your questions and our answers
You keep any rights you have in the questions you write. You may use the answers you receive for your own study and may quote them, but please say that they were generated by AI. How we handle your conversations is explained in our Privacy Policy.
05Intellectual property
5.1 Our content
The design of the Services, our articles, graphics, logos and software belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Translations and recitations belong to their translators, reciters or publishers, and photographs from third-party libraries (such as Pexels) are credited and remain subject to their own licences.
5.2 What you may do
You may:
- Read, listen to and use the Services for your own personal, educational and non-commercial use
- Share links to our pages
- Quote short passages with a link back to the page
5.3 What you may not do
Unless we agree in writing, you may not:
- Copy, republish or sell substantial parts of our content, translations or recordings
- Use our content for commercial purposes
- Remove copyright notices or credits
- Use automated tools to scrape or bulk-download content, including to train AI models
- Suggest that you are connected with or endorsed by us when you are not
5.4 Content you send us
If you send us corrections, suggestions or other material, you keep ownership of it. You give us a free, worldwide licence to use it to improve and run the Services, and you confirm that you have the right to share it. We will not publish your name without your permission.
06Using the services responsibly
When using the Services, you must not:
- Break any law or encourage anyone else to do so
- Send or post anything defamatory, hateful, harassing, threatening or obscene
- Send spam or unsolicited advertising
- Introduce viruses or other harmful code
- Try to gain unauthorised access to the Services, our systems or other people's data
- Overload or disrupt the Services, for example with automated requests
We may restrict or block access to the Services, including the AI assistant, if we reasonably believe these rules have been broken, and we may report illegal activity to the relevant authorities.
07Advertising and affiliate links
7.1 How we keep the Services free
The Services are free because we earn money from advertising and affiliate links. If you click an affiliate link (for example to compare flights or hotels) and book something, we may receive a commission. This does not change the price you pay. The Disclosure Policy explains how this works.
7.2 Our content
Adverts and affiliate links are labelled. Commissions do not influence the Quran text, translations, recitations or AI assistant answers, and we will not publish fake or misleading reviews or comments. AI-written material on our stories pages is labelled as AI-written.
7.3 Bookings with third parties
When you book or buy through a link on our site, your contract is with the provider (for example a hotel, airline or activity company), not with us. Their terms, prices and cancellation rules apply, and any problem with the booking needs to be raised with them.
08Other websites
The Services link to websites, apps and tools run by other people, including booking sites, YouTube and social networks. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Please read their terms and privacy policies before using them.
09Our liability to you
9.1 What we do not exclude
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
9.2 Free information
The Services are provided free of charge for general information and learning. Subject to section 9.1, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your reliance on general content or AI assistant answers that you could reasonably have checked with authentic sources or a qualified person before acting.
9.3 Foreseeable loss
Subject to section 9.1, we are only responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, and, if you use the Services for business purposes, we are not liable for loss of profit, business or opportunity.
9.4 Overall limit
Subject to section 9.1, and because the Services are free, our total liability to you in connection with the Services is limited to £100.
10Responsibility for misuse
If you are using the Services for business purposes, you agree to compensate us for reasonable losses and costs we suffer as a direct result of your breach of these Terms or your infringement of someone else's rights. If you are a consumer, this section does not apply, but you remain responsible for the foreseeable consequences of breaking these Terms.
11Privacy and cookies
We handle personal data in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018 (as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain what we collect, why, and your rights, including how we protect questions to the AI assistant that may reveal your religious beliefs.
12Suspending or ending access
You can stop using the Services at any time, ask us to close your AI assistant account, and unsubscribe from our newsletter using the link in every email. We may suspend or end your access to the AI assistant or other parts of the Services if you break these Terms or if we need to for legal, security or technical reasons. Sections 5, 9, 10 and 16 continue to apply after your access ends.
13Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms to reflect changes in the law, our Services or how we work. We will show the date of the latest update at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also give notice on the website, and AI assistant users and newsletter subscribers will be told by email. Changes do not apply to anything that happened before they were published.
14Events outside our control
We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, pandemics, government action, war, strikes, cyber attacks or failures of third-party services such as our AI provider. We will take reasonable steps to limit the effect of such events.
15General
15.1 Whole agreement
These Terms, with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and the Disclosure Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Services.
15.2 If part of these Terms is invalid
If a court decides that part of these Terms is invalid or unenforceable, the rest of the Terms will continue to apply.
15.3 No waiver
If we do not enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
15.4 Transfer
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to someone else, for example if the Services are sold, provided this does not reduce your rights. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent.
15.5 Third parties
Nobody other than you and us has any right to enforce these Terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
16Law and disputes
16.1 Talk to us first
If you have a complaint, please email [email protected] with "Complaint" in the subject line. We will acknowledge it within 7 working days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
16.2 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts of the place where you live. Consumers living elsewhere keep any mandatory protections of the law of their country of residence.
