About this Surah

This Surah takes its name from vv. 136, 138 and 139 in which some superstitious beliefs of the idolatrous Arabs concerning the lawfulness of some cattle (an`am) and the unlawfulness of some others have been refuted.

Surah Al-An'am · The Cattle

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

  1. Ayah 71

    قُلْ أَنَدْعُو مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنفَعُنَا وَلَا يَضُرُّنَا وَنُرَدُّ عَلَىٰ أَعْقَابِنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ كَالَّذِي اسْتَهْوَتْهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ فِي الْأَرْضِ حَيْرَانَ لَهُ أَصْحَابٌ يَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى الْهُدَى ائْتِنَا ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اللَّهِ هُوَ الْهُدَىٰ ۖ وَأُمِرْنَا لِنُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

    Si: «Skulle vi vel utenom Gud påkalle slikt som verken kan nytte eller skade oss? Skulle vi vel la oss snu tvert om etter at Gud har ledet oss? Som den som satanene forleder så han går i ørske på jorden? Skjønt han har venner som kaller ham til ledelsen: ’Kom til oss!’» Si: «Guds ledelse, den er ledelsen, og vi er pålagt å hengi oss til all verdens Herre!»

  2. Ayah 72

    وَأَنْ أَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَاتَّقُوهُ ۚ وَهُوَ الَّذِي إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

    Og: «Forrett bønnen og frykt Ham! Hos Ham vil dere alle bli samlet!»

  3. Ayah 73

    وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ ۖ وَيَوْمَ يَقُولُ كُن فَيَكُونُ ۚ قَوْلُهُ الْحَقُّ ۚ وَلَهُ الْمُلْكُ يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ ۚ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ۚ وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ

    Han er det som har skapt himlene og jorden på alvor. Den dag Han sier «Bli», så blir det. Hans ord er sannhet. Hans er herredømmet den dag det støtes i basunen. Han kjenner det skjulte og det synlige. Han er den Vise, den Innsiktsfulle.

  4. Ayah 74

    وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ آزَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصْنَامًا آلِهَةً ۖ إِنِّي أَرَاكَ وَقَوْمَكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ

    En gang sa Abraham til sin far, Azar: «Tar du avgudsbilder til guder? Du og ditt folk er sannelig klart på villspor.»

  5. Ayah 75

    وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُرِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَلَكُوتَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلِيَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُوقِنِينَ

    Således viste vi Abraham himlenes og jordens rike, at han skulle bli fast i troen.

  6. Ayah 76

    فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ رَأَىٰ كَوْكَبًا ۖ قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّي ۖ فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَا أُحِبُّ الْآفِلِينَ

    Da natten bredte seg over ham, så han en stjerne. Han sa: «Dette er min Herre.» Men da den gikk ned, sa han: «Jeg holder ikke av slike som forsvinner.»

  7. Ayah 77

    فَلَمَّا رَأَى الْقَمَرَ بَازِغًا قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّي ۖ فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَئِن لَّمْ يَهْدِنِي رَبِّي لَأَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الضَّالِّينَ

    Da han så månen stige opp, sa han: «Dette er min Herre.» Men da den gikk ned, sa han: «Hvis Herren ikke leder meg, vil jeg forbli av de villfarende folk!»

Meccan Surahs

The Meccan Surahs are the earliest revelations sent down to the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم). They were revealed in Mecca, hence their name. These revelations form the foundation of the Islamic faith and contain guidance for Muslims on how to live their lives. The Meccan Surahs are also notable for their poetic beauty and lyrical prose.

Medinan Surahs

The Medinan Surahs are the later Surahs that, according to Islamic tradition, were revealed in Medina after the Prophet Muhammad's (صلى الله عليه وسلم) hijra from Mecca. They were revealed by Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) when the Muslim community was larger and more developed, as opposed to their minority position in Mecca.
