About this Surah

This Surah comprises several discourses which were revealed on different occasions during the period ranging probably between the end of A.H. 3 and the end of A.H. 4 or the beginning of A.H. 5. Although it is difficult to determine the exact dates of their revelations, yet it is possible to assign to them a fairly correct period with the help of the Commandments and the events mentioned therein and the Traditions concerning them.

Surah An-Nisa · De Vrouwen

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Verses around 4:124

  1. Ayah 121

    أُولَـٰئِكَ مَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ عَنْهَا مَحِيصًا

    Hunne verzamelplaats zal de hel zijn; daartegen zullen zij geene schuilplaats vinden.

  2. Ayah 122

    وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ۖ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللَّهِ قِيلًا

    Maar zij, die gelooven en goede werken doen, dezen zullen wij zeker in tuinen brengen, met rivieren doorsneden; eeuwig zullen zij daarin verblijven, overeenkomstig Gods ware belofte; en wat is meer waar dan hetgeen God zegt?

  3. Ayah 123

    لَّيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ ۗ مَن يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ وَلَا يَجِدْ لَهُ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا

    Het zal niet overeenkomstig uwe begeerten zijn, en niet overeenkomstig de begeerten van hen, die de schriften hebben ontvangen. Hij, die kwaad bedrijft, zal daarvoor in gelijke mate worden beloond, en zal geenerlei beschermer of helper naast God vinden.

  4. Ayah 124

    وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ مِن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُولَـٰئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ نَقِيرًا

    Maar hij, die goede werken doet, hetzij een man of vrouw, en een waar geloovige is, zal in het paradijs worden toegelaten, en zal niet het minst worden benadeeld.

  5. Ayah 125

    وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ دِينًا مِّمَّنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ وَاتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا ۗ وَاتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ خَلِيلًا

    Wie is beter in den godsdienst dan hij, die zich aan God overgeeft en goed doet, en de wet van Abraham den Vrome volgt? naardien God Abraham tot zijnen vriend heeft genomen.

  6. Ayah 126

    وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّحِيطًا

    Aan God behoort alles wat in den hemel en op de aarde is. God omvat alles.

  7. Ayah 127

    وَيَسْتَفْتُونَكَ فِي النِّسَاءِ ۖ قُلِ اللَّهُ يُفْتِيكُمْ فِيهِنَّ وَمَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ فِي يَتَامَى النِّسَاءِ اللَّاتِي لَا تُؤْتُونَهُنَّ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُنَّ وَتَرْغَبُونَ أَن تَنكِحُوهُنَّ وَالْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الْوِلْدَانِ وَأَن تَقُومُوا لِلْيَتَامَىٰ بِالْقِسْطِ ۚ وَمَا تَفْعَلُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِهِ عَلِيمًا

    Zij zullen u raadplegen omtrent alles. Antwoord: God heeft u daaromtrent onderricht; en wat u is gelezen in het boek nopens vrouwelijke weezen, die gij niet geeft wat u is bevolen, en die gij nooit wilt huwen; nopens zwakke kinderen, en dat gij rechtvaardig tegenover weezen moet handelen: wat gij ook goed doet, God weet het.

Meccan Surahs

The Meccan Surahs are the earliest revelations sent down to the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم). They were revealed in Mecca, hence their name. These revelations form the foundation of the Islamic faith and contain guidance for Muslims on how to live their lives. The Meccan Surahs are also notable for their poetic beauty and lyrical prose.

Medinan Surahs

The Medinan Surahs are the later Surahs that, according to Islamic tradition, were revealed in Medina after the Prophet Muhammad's (صلى الله عليه وسلم) hijra from Mecca. They were revealed by Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) when the Muslim community was larger and more developed, as opposed to their minority position in Mecca.
